Cristo Rey High School Sacramento Accepting Applications for Fall 2010

Sacramento, Calif. (Vocus) March 5, 2010 -- Cristo Rey High School Sacramento (http://www.cristoreysacramento.org/), a private college preparatory school where students help pay for their education through an innovative work-study program, is now accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year.

The unique high school, which started with its first class of students in 2006, is part of a network of private Catholic high schools that provides college preparatory education for students of limited means.

A key part of the program is that students work one day a week at an employer, learning valuable life skills and helping to pay the cost of their education.

“Cristo Rey students have the unique experience of learning both inside and outside the classroom,” said Ward Fansler, president of CRHSS. “Our program is designed to help individuals gain vital skills and graduate with a well rounded education.”

Admission is partially based on household income limitations. Students must be at least 14 years old on or before Sept. 1 or the first official day of work, whichever comes later.

To apply or to obtain further information about the admissions process, contact the Admissions Office at (916) 733-2660, extension 1024. Prospective students can also attend a “Shadow Day,” where he or she visits Cristo Rey and attends classes. The next “Shadow Day” is March 16. A placement test will take place March 27.

Cristo Rey currently has a coeducational student body of 250 students in grades 9-12 from Sacramento, Yolo and San Joaquin counties. In June 2010, the school will graduate its first class of students.
